There really isn’t a standard size or dimension for a wedding invitation. However, there is a range of sizes that we recommend and they correlate with popular envelope sizes. The chart below displays the envelope size and the corresponding wedding invitation size needed. The chart also has a column that tells you how many of that size of invitation you can print per piece of standard 8.5″ x 11″ piece of paper.
Envelope Size | Wedding Invitation Dimension | Number of Invitations You Can Print per 8.5″ x 11″ sheet |
---|---|---|
A2 | 4.25″ x 5.5″ | 4 |
A6 | 4.625″ x 6.25″ | 2 |
A7 | 5″ x 7″ | 2 |
A8 | 5.25″ x 7.75″ | 2 |
A9 | 5.5″ x 8.625″ | 1 |
A10 | 5.75″ x 9.25″ | 1 |
Before selecting a wedding invite size, remember the cost of postage.
As of this writing, any envelope that is larger than 6 1/8″ x 11 1/2″ will require additional postage. Keep this in mind when selecting your wedding invitation size and corresponding envelope. Also note that some non-standard envelopes, such as square envelopes require additional postage. We encourage you to check out the postage regulations yourself in case there have been any changes at USPS.com.
Remember outer envelopes when selecting on wedding invitation size.
Determine if you are going to use outer envelopes before selecting an invitation size as well. The outer envelope will need to be bigger than the invitation envelope. Check out our envelope page for more information about envelope sizes and the traditional use of outer envelopes.
